NK Varaždin played out a 2-2 draw with HNK Gorica on Saturday in the seventh round of the SuperSport HNL. The match, held in Velika Gorica, closed out the weekend's fixtures in the Croatian top flight.
The hosts took the lead in the 53rd minute through a goal from Bruno Bogojević. Varaždin equalised quickly, with Luka Mamić scoring just four minutes later. Valentin Akrap put the visitors ahead in the 85th minute, but Ivan Cvijanović salvaged a point for Gorica with a strike in the fifth minute of added time.
The draw gives Varaždin their 14th point of the season, keeping them in third place in the table. Hajduk Split leads with 16 points. A win would have seen Varaždin draw level with the leaders, but they had to settle for a share of the spoils. The team's recent form reads DWDWL over their last five matches, including this draw.
In the previous round, Varaždin defeated Zagorec Unešić 4-0 in the Croatian Cup. Gorica, on the other hand, had earned their first league point of the season just prior to this match with a draw against Rijeka. Gorica's head coach Marija Carević led her team into this important fixture.
The team's next challenge is a home match against NK Osijek on Thursday, September 19th. You can also check the squad list to see who is available to the coach for the upcoming games.
