NK Varaždin Defeats Rijeka 2-0
NK Varaždin defeated Rijeka 2-0 in the third round of SuperSport HNL. Nikola Šafarić's team secured their third win of the season with goals from Ivan Mamut, who scored in the 20th and 31st minutes.
Varaždin dominant in the first half
After an initial test of strength, Varaždin took the lead in the 20th minute. It was the first shot on goal, and it came from an action in which Iuri Tavares from the left wing passed to Ivan Mamut, who headed the ball into the net for 1-0.
Rijeka without an answer in the second half
Rijeka's coach introduced Jakov Puljić and Ivan Ćubelić instead of Amer Gojaka and Tiago Dantas at halftime. The guests took control of the ball in the second half, but Varaždin organized their defense and remained a threat from counterattacks.
Rijeka's closest shot was in the 74th minute
When Puljić's shot from the left side ended up in the goalkeeper's hands. Before that, in the 67th minute, a good attempt by Janković was blocked by the home goalkeeper Josip Silić.

Varaždin thus achieved a 2-0 win and confirmed their excellent start to the new season. After the win over Rijeka, Varaždin is currently second on the table with nine points, just like the leading Osijek.
