NK Varaždin allocated all ticket revenue from the recent match against Rudeš to aid the fire-stricken Omiš area. The club topped up the amount, with the final donation totalling €10,000. The action was supported by former Croatia national team coach Zlatko Dalić, who purchased one hundred tickets.
Head coach and sporting director Nikola Šafarić noted the club is pleased with its league position. "People didn't expect us to be this high up. It's nice to work after a win," Šafarić told 24sata Sport. Varaždin currently shares the top of the SuperSport HNL with Osijek, both on 12 points. Scottish goalkeeper Robby McCrorie has signed a two-year contract with NK Varaždin following a spell with Danish side Esbjerg. "There is a family atmosphere at the club, everyone gives their all and I believe Varaždin is the right choice for me," said the new goalkeeper.
McCrorie arrives with experience in Scottish football and will become only the second Scot to play in the Croatian top flight. How did Varaždin defeat Rudeš?
Varaždin beat Rudeš 2-0 in the fifth round at the Stadion Varteks, according to a report by Jutarnji list. The hosts dominated but only found the net late on. Ivan Latković scored the first in the 72nd minute, with Dario Canjuga adding a second six minutes from time.
